"Big sounding classic tenor going 21st Century" George W. Harris gave (Un)seaworthy a generous, pithy appraisal over at Jazz Weekly. Read the original here (full text below). Review of (Un)seaworthy
by George W. Harris Jazz Weekly, January 28, 2021 Deep toned saxist Kevin Sun leads a post bop trio with bassist Walter Stinson and drummer Matt Honor through a handful of intuitively swinging originals. Sun is reminiscent of mid period Sonny Rollins, loosely bopping over the nimble groove on “Bad Lady” and sleek around Stinson’s bass on “Seaworthy (Unseaworthy)”. Honor gets some solo space on “Prelude/Genuflecting at the Cathedral of Perpetual Hustle” and simmers with Stinson on “Latinate” while his hi hat sizzles after Stinson hands him the baton and Sun goes into a frisky Coltrane mood on “Facsimilate (Unlike You”. Big sounding classic tenor going 21st Century.
